An ongoing series of informative, inspirational ideas

September 17, 2019

Living near so much water lends itself to seeing a boat literally every day! As a Navy veteran, I now know that the term boat has many, many, many, did I say many, interpretations!?! If you’ve ever been on a boat of any kind, you know that this can be an exhilarating experience! However, I want to bring your attention to the bottom of the boat. If you’ve ever visited a marina, you may notice that many boats have a metal hull, or are metal on the bottom. You may notice that these boats actually rest outside of, or above the water, when not in use. The boats must be lifted out of the water because if they are not moving with purpose, rust can quickly set in. A boat with a metal hull that is stored in the water is a boat that will be damaged by the same water in which it was created to move!

In the same sense, when you or I are stagnant, rust, or stiffness, can set in and destroy the vehicle that is made to move...our bodies! Boats are made to move, to carry people, cargo, animals, food, and any number of things, through water in order to reach a specified destination. Of course I must ask, how often do you move your body for a specified purpose or to reach a specific wellness destination? Regardless of the way you deprive yourself in the name of the latest trend, without consistent movement, it'll be hard to maintain any lasting results. Let's move together at any of my yoga/meditation classes, I can't wait to see you on the mat! Scroll down and share your thoughts!

Cardease Chunky Cauliflower Chowder

1 large head of cauliflower, stems removed and cut into small pieces

2 cups of unsalted chicken or veggie stock
1 cup of unsweetened almond milk (diary substitute etc.)
3 carrots peeled, thinly sliced or shredded
2 celery stalks cut small
your favorite spices
1 onion diced small
Olive oil or coconut oil
1/2 cup shredded cheddar

In a large saucepan on medium heat, add stock, water, celery, carrots, half of  the diced onion, and all but 1 cup of cauliflower. In a medium or small saucepan, caramelize the remaining diced onions in 2 tbsp of oil, slowly adding almond milk, flour, and a little cheese, stirring consistently to create a smooth rue (if you don’t want dairy or cheese, use a cup of the broth from the pot and a whole cauliflower, blend in blender, returning to the pot for thickness). Finally, add the remaining cup of cauliflower into the pot to replace the reduced veggies. Once rue is to your taste and consistency,  pour into large pot with other ingredients, stir and simmer on low heat until desired flavor and thickness, cook for no more than 45 minutes. I like more whole veggies than soup, hence a super chunky chowder! The caramelized onions used for the rue make the dish, you will never see cauliflower the same! Pair with ritz crackers- It’s a meal!

Frequencies and Wavelengths...

September 11, 2019

Our thoughts exist on a frequency, a wavelength if you will, just like television or radio stations. These devices function to their highest capacity when on an adequate wavelength that allows them to pick up the faintest signals. Those signals soon become pictures on your screen or music to your ears. Just like we experience the world around us with our eyes when taking in a beautiful location, we also experience our thought patterns. Our thought patterns have served us our entire lives, either positive information, or negative, and like an attentive audience when our favorite show is on, we scoot closer and turn up the volume. Look around, what have your thought patterns been sending your way lately? When you experience a thought you don’t like, what do you do about it? Do you let that thought consume you, making all subsequent decisions based on this thought? The root of a bad day, that then leads to stress, that spills over into anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations, is one thought, one thought! Just like a television or a radio station that has picked up a bad signal, so too can YOU! Instead of choosing to let the bad signal penetrate your existence and everything around you, why not simply change the channel!

Turn off for a moment, get quiet, then turn back on and see how much better you function! YOU HAVE THAT POWER! The power to stop your thought patterns and think about whatever you want! Are you sitting close and turning up the volume when your mind sends a signal of hopelessness or despair? If the thought is not serving you, turn it off! Switch it to a channel that is more pleasant, one you can stay glued to for an extended period of time. While binge watching is now the standard, what thoughts are you currently binging on? Thoughts of prosperity, health, generational wealth? My father would say this when I was a young woman, dating and attending a college where some would say in addition to your degree, many also earn their M.R.S. “You can fall in love with a rich man just as easily as you can fall in love with a poor man!” He really meant, life can be hard enough, don’t make it intentionally hard on yourself! I leave my father’s words with you, you can fall in love with a positive thought just as easily as you can fall in love with a negative thought! Life can be hard enough, don’t be intentionally hard on yourself! You spend a lot of time with these thoughts, are they serving you? Don’t let your thoughts take you on a ride you don’t want to go on! What are you thinking? Keep your thoughts intact by registering for any of my yoga/meditation classes. September 3, 2019

This is wheel pose. It got me thinking, do you treat your mind, body, and soul like a phenomenal set of wheels? Imagine owning a Rolls Royce, Porsche, Bugatti, whichever suits your needs. If you owned one of these luxury vehicles, you would think twice before handing over the keys to a driver you do not trust. You probably would not drive this valuable vehicle into certain situations. I’d like to think that the fuel you choose would be the best fuel to keep your luxury vehicle running effectively, for as long as possible. You’ll probably remain diligent with required maintenance, accurate fuel changes, and meticulous detailing. NOT EVERYONE CAN RIDE WITH YOU!

When was the last time you took note of the fuel you placed in your soul, body, or mind? Are you using the best fuel? Are you ensuring you will remain on the road, of life that is, for as long as possible? Are you fueling effectively, at regular intervals before you drive on  an empty tank?  Have you turned your soul, body, or mind over to a driver that is not great on the road? Can they be trusted with the keys to you? Are they steering you all over the road, in dangerous conditions, taking unnecessary risks to keep them excited on their ride with you? Have you left your keys, or your standards, laying around so anyone can take a reckless ride? I hope you are treating yourself with the love and care you deserve, I pray you demand to be treated like the luxury vehicle you are by those in your presence. The only difference, your value should continue to be appreciated with each and every learning experience, a vehicle continues to depreciate. Keep yourself fine tuned this fall by registering for any of my yoga/meditation classes...
